Trauma-Informed Child-Parent Psychotherapy

Trauma-Informed Child-Parent Psychotherapy

Who?

Trauma-Informed Child-Parent Psychotherapy is an evidence-based therapeutic intervention for young children from birth through age seven and their caregivers.

CPP may help when:

  • Children have been through scary or painful events such as loss of a loved one, separation, serious medical procedures, abuse or violence at home or in the community
  • Children show difficult behavior
  • Children have a change in placement or caregivers
  • Family members have physical health or mental health difficulties
  • Caregivers would like help with parenting and improving parent-child relationships

How?

CPP helps young children after difficult things happen by helping them make sense of what their family went through, know what they can expect in the future, and learn to cope with challenging negative emotions. CPP is delivered through a combination of caregiver-only and caregiver-child family sessions. This combination of sessions is intended to support a family's strengths and relationships while honoring the innate wisdom of the caregiver who knows their child best.
